Jean-pierre Bertaux-Marais is born on March 8th, in Paris, France.
The fascination he had for the sea due to his stay in Brittany in his early ages, for the safety of his family during the WWII, with orientated his first career's choice. he attended the school of Merchant Navy and spent a few years travelling around the world. But his other strong passion for the fine-Arts made him abandon this career as he decided to return to Paris where he entered The scholl of the Fine-Arts. From this moment his path was made as a professional painter.
Since 1960, he has exhibited his work in major internationnals galleries all over the world (USA, Europe and Asia). He is still actually represented by major galleries in the United-States and abroad. After travelling around the world for so many years, JP Bertaux-Marais has mastered his arts in seascapes paintings.
His attentiveness to architecture and to the lights, where as they arethe stiking ones of the Greek islands, the shadows and weathered tones of Brittany's landscapes, the smooth and delicate ones of Provence or magic Venetian's atmosphere, JP Bertaux-marais paintings are full of symbolism and vivid in colors, allowing us to connect with his underlying emotions.
His compositions combine balance and strenght and are accentuated by striking graphics wich underscore a distint and mastered technique. Throught his poetic reality JP Bertaux-Marais invites us to take part in both real and imaginary voyages that he found particularly enticing.
